Bulldog shows up for his pit bull buddy

The call is about one pit bull with a bad leg. Nobody expects him to have a friend. more

The Hope For Paws rescuers find him, and their first worry is that he'll run. They check whether he has a way out, and one of them goes to talk to him first. He's not walking right on one of his legs.

Then the cheeseburgers come out. The plan is to hand him one and just make friends, and it works. He stays calm around a group of strangers and lets them get close.

That's when a second dog turns up. "There's an English bulldog right behind you," one rescuer says. Side by side they make an odd pair, the pit bull mostly white with black and gray on his face and ears, the bulldog planted next to him like he was always part of the plan.

The bulldog has come over to see where his friend is going. A rescuer has another theory: "He smells the cheeseburgers. He wants them too." Plenty of people who watched are not so sure, and his timing gets the biggest laughs of the whole rescue.

Then a rescuer picks up the pit bull. Someone thanks the team, and the rescuers promise to send a photo update. "Don't cry," one says. "He'll be okay, I promise."

A little later, someone is telling him what a good boy he is.
