The orphan Border Terrier with a cat for a mom
His own mother left the Border Terrier puppy the day he was born. A cat with three new kittens of her own took him in. more
She already had her paws full. Her three kittens were healthy and still mostly blind, and one would nap curled right up against her.
SaveThe puppy is small, with brown and black fur, and he was born on the same day as her kittens. He sits with his head tilted a little, looking down.
SaveThe cat took him in without a second thought and accepted him as her own. From then on she looked after all four babies the same way, and the puppy settled right in.
That includes keeping everyone clean. She licks one of the babies along the back, right beside a piece of cardboard.
SaveThen it's time to eat, and she gathers them in. The kittens, still mostly blind, have to work their way over to her, mewing the whole way. She steers back anyone who wanders too far and purrs until they settle down. Each kitten marks one spot to nurse with a scent of his or her own and goes back to that same spot every time, so mealtime stays calm.
SaveThe puppy has his own ideas about sharing. Puppies in a litter push and shove for their share, and he breaks every one of the cat family's rules, nosing the kittens aside to get to the milk. The most-liked comment wonders whether the cat has noticed that one of her kittens looks a little strange. Another blames the different ears on the father.
The BBC story is narrated by David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor from 'Doctor Who,' and plenty of fans knew that voice right away. Another favorite comment looks ahead. When this puppy grows up, people hope he will keep his mom and his kitten siblings safe from any mean dog that comes chasing.
