The pit bull pups nobody planned to keep
A pit bull was about a week away from giving birth when she was given up to a shelter, and she needed a place to stay. Bobby and his wife took her home. more
She had 12 puppies. The couple had no plan to keep any of them. That lasted until Bobby fell for a girl named Annabelle, and his wife and their youngest daughter fell for her brother, Norman.
SaveSo they kept both. Annabelle has been Dad's girl since she was three weeks old, a pit bull with blue eyes who wants Bobby and only Bobby when she needs love. When he growls at her, she kisses his face.
Norman is a different dog entirely. He's curious about everything, a big goofball who keeps his people laughing, and he can jump high. Annabelle won't go through a hoop unless someone coaxes her. One fan noticed that she'll still leap into her dad's arms.
SaveShe is the careful one. A behaviorist told them not to rush her into anything, so they don't. It took her about a month to get comfortable in the pool, but she wanted to do it, in her own way and her own time. On a trip with family, she met a lot of new people and did fine, which amazed them.
The two are opposites, and somehow they fit. They always seem to be playing. Once, when Bobby had to take Annabelle to the vet, Norman stayed by the window the whole time. When they got back, he ran to the door, and it was Annabelle he wanted. He didn't care that Bobby was there.
SaveNorman is his mom's dog. As a tiny pup, he would cry until she held him. On a night when she was very upset, he stayed right next to her in bed all night long, always with a paw or his head on her. "He should have been an emotional support dog," she says.
Bobby knows the usual stereotype about bully breeds, and he has an answer for it. "If you train them and socialize them and treat them like family, then they will end up being the greatest dog you've ever had." Annabelle is a handful, and they would not change a thing about her. They would only tell her they love her, and ask her to stop being so pushy.
