There's no time to waste. The two head straight into the trash room with a dog-catching loop and work their way deep inside, until they find her alone in a corner.

The rescuers find her hiding deep in the trash room behind a fast food restaurant.

She's wary, and it shows in her eyes. The rescuers keep their voices soft. "Hi, pretty girl," one says. "You hungry?"

They offer food and give her time. Before long, her tail starts to wag.

Instead of rushing her, the rescuers offer food and give her time.

Then she rolls onto her back for a belly rub, right there on the trash room floor. It still takes a few more tries to get the loop over her head. "I got her," one of the rescuers says at last.

They tell the truck driver they have the dog under control, and the crew goes ahead and empties the dumpster. As the bin clangs, she pulls the two women behind a second dumpster. Nobody drags her out. They keep talking to her until the noise stops, and then one tells her, "See, the scary garbage truck is gone."

On the way out, the rescuers thank the trash crew. By the time they coax her into the car, she has a name, Kisses. She can't stop kissing her rescuers, so it fits.

Back at Hope For Paws she gets a long bath to wash the soot out of her coat. Clean and calm, she makes friends with the other dogs and gives Alex a few more kisses. When a squeaky toy comes out, she wants in on the game.
