Talking dog runs out of patience for his kitten
A black-and-white dog has asked for a kitten to keep him company. Now his dad is home from the pet store, and the news is good. more
His dad does the talking for both of them. He gives the dog a goofy voice, timed so well that the dog seems to hold up his end of the chat. "I went to the pet store today," Dad says. "No way," says the dog.
SaveFirst Dad checks the order. The dog wanted a girl, yes. And a tabby. That's all it takes. He jumps around, sure his dad finally got him a cat, and wants to know where she is.
Dad is in no hurry. "Wait, wait, wait, you didn't let me finish," he says, and starts the story of his trip from the top. He looked at the snakes. He looked at the guinea pigs, the mice, the parrots and the hamsters. When he gets to the kittens, the dog is sure this is it. Then Dad moves on to the hermit crabs.
That is where the dog draws the line. Get me a kitten, he warns, or "I'm going to chew this couch's arms right off." People still quote that one. Dad keeps going anyway, with the turtles, and all the dog can say is "Oh, come on."
SaveThen a small noise catches his ear, and he wants to know what that was. At last Dad gets to the point. There were shelter kittens at the store, so he picked one up.
No way. Dad really got him a cat. The dog wants to know what she looks like, and when Dad asks if he wants to go see her, the answer is yes. Let's go.
That's where it stops. The kitten never appears, and plenty of people are just as eager to see her as the dog is.
