Dumpster runt Esme is not the smallest anymore
Five puppies, the rescuers were told. They found seven in the dumpster, and every one of them was terrified of people. more
Danna works with a dog rescue group called R.A.F., which stands for Rescue. Adopt. Foster. The puppies were in a box in that dumpster, and the first thing she saw was "these tiny little eyes" looking up at her. They had been in there for two or three days. A human hand was the last thing they wanted.
Her team got all seven into the car anyway and turned the heaters on to keep them warm. Safe and comfy now, as Danna put it, the puppies went to one of the group's fosters.
SaveOnce they were cleaned up, they fell asleep right away, huddled up against each other. One of them worried Danna. Esme was smaller than the rest and very weak, and Danna did not think she would pull through.
Esme's foster mom was just as worried. She was so concerned that she slept with Esme all through the night. And before long, Esme recovered.
She did more than recover. Esme turned feisty. She wagged her tail and barked and got right in everyone's face, as if to say, "I made it, I got this."
SaveTheir foster had them on a schedule. Walk into their little room and there they were, all lined up, tails wagging. They were spoiled, too, with more toys than anyone could believe.
Then they were all adopted. Danna's group stayed closely involved, making sure each puppy went to the best home and talking with the families every day. Barnaby, Sienna, Arthur, Harper, Winnie, Ralph and Esme all found forever homes.
Esme went to an American woman in Kuwait who had been a foster herself. Watching Esme go from the runt to such a strong little dog is what won her over. Esme isn't the smallest anymore. The two are always at the beach together, and when her mom goes to work, Esme goes too.
