Baby goats, a glass table and a tap dance
Weeds, leaves, solar lanterns, a glass-topped table. To the young goats at Sunflower Farm Creamery, every one of them is a toy. more
The kids are Nigerian Dwarf and Nubian goats on a farm in Cumberland, Maine, owned by Hope and Chris. In the evening they have the run of the place outside the barn, and they don't waste a minute of it.
SaveAnything within reach gets the same treatment. A goat rears up on two back legs, stretches for a leaf or a weed, and tries to pull it to the ground, bleating away. All that hopping on two feet looks a lot like tap dancing.
The best number happens on the table. One goat climbs right up onto the glass top and hops around on it, reaching for the leaves of a tree above. More than one person who loves this farm calls it the table dance.
SaveA couple of the others try jumping onto a makeshift fire pit by the seating area. Nothing out here is safe from a curious goat.
The farm's kittens keep to the fence and stay out of it. They seem more taken with the sunflowers in the garden, and one cat plays with a long strand of grass just outside the fence.
Later the goats fall into a straight line behind one leader and follow that goat around the farm, the bells on their necks ringing as they go. After all the climbing and grabbing, it's a soft, steady sound.
