Chihuahua won't let the bulldog nap

Down on a speckled stone floor, a huge American bulldog would like to sleep. The tiny Chihuahua beside him would like to wrestle. more

There's a name for this: small dog syndrome. A little dog acts as if he's far bigger and tougher than he really is, and it usually turns out funny instead of dangerous. The Chihuahua is the smallest breed of all, about 5 pounds, so this one has a lot of bluffing to do.

He starts at the back end, grabbing the bulldog's tail and nibbling away. The bulldog gently pushes him away, then lays his head down on the floor like a dog who would very much like a nap.

The Chihuahua stays on his feet while the bulldog tries to settle in for a nap.

The nap lasts about as long as you would guess. Back comes the Chihuahua, this time batting at the bulldog's face. One viewer points out that the little dog's whole paw is about the size of one of the bulldog's toes.

At last the bulldog answers with a few soft nibbles, more gums than teeth, the kind of bite that says enough is enough. The little dog makes his case with hardly a bark, and thousands of fans agree with the one who calls him the first Chihuahua they have seen that is not barking a mile a minute.

None of it settles anything. The little dog keeps coming back and the big dog keeps letting him. For all his size, the bulldog never forgets how small his friend is.
