The lamb who picked petting over playtime
On a bright, quiet field, one small lamb decides that playtime can wait. He has found a person, and he would like to be petted. more
The lamb is white with a few dark patches, standing in the grass beside a man in a brown fleece. The sun is out and the birds are singing.
SaveLee Walters, who shared the moment, says the lambs there normally run around and play. This one stopped. He wanted to be petted for a while, so Lee did exactly that.
It starts with a hand to the nose. The lamb stays right where he is.
SaveThen the real petting begins. The lamb stays put for it, in no hurry to go anywhere. Neither, it turns out, is the man.
SaveThe lamb is not shy about asking for more. He paws at the man with a small hoof until he gets it. Anyone who has raised a puppy or a toddler knows the move.
SaveThe most common reaction is plain envy. To a lot of people, a sunny field and a lamb who wants nothing but attention looks like a page out of a children's storybook.
The lamb is all grown up now, Lee says, and grazing in the hills. Somewhere out there is a full-sized sheep who once got a grown man to stop everything and keep petting.
