Elephant sisters meet again and play like babies
Chana and Sai Thong grew up side by side, two Asian elephants who went everywhere together. They even went out to sell bananas and sugarcane as a pair. more
The two are half-sisters. Their life together changed the day Chana had an accident and broke a hind leg.
Saengduean “Lek” Chailert, who founded the Save Elephant Foundation, brought in a team of vets. Chana was treated for four to five months and then moved away for more care. The sisters had to live apart.
The staff at Elephant Nature Park in Thailand look after elephants who need help. Years went by. When Sai Thong became unwell, they brought the two sisters back together.
SaveIt takes no time at all. The moment they meet, the two start to play like babies and splash through the water. One lifts her trunk and throws a spray of drops into the air.
SaveThe sound is what people remember. Viewers keep pointing to the little squeaks and trumpets, and to the way the sisters touch each other again and again.
SaveThey had been apart long enough for anyone to wonder if they would still know each other. The answer comes right away, and it sounds like squeaking.
