The cat who won't leave his pregnant owner's side
With about seven weeks to go before her due date, she has a shadow. One of her cats has decided his place is right beside her. more
It starts with a laugh. A man in a green cap cracks up with a spoon in his hand, and she smiles beside him. The baby is close now, and the waiting seems to be going fine.
SaveThen she stretches out on the couch for a rest. She doesn't get it to herself for long.
One of her cats curls up tight against her, near the window, and stays put. He is not going anywhere, and now neither is she.
SaveIt's anyone's guess what a cat picks up on in the last weeks of a pregnancy. Plenty of people who were pregnant around cats tell a similar story, though: a cat who wouldn't let them off the couch the day before labor, or one who slept on their belly near the end. Many guess it is the smell, or the hormones. The cat hasn't said.
She rests her head against the couch and closes her eyes, still smiling a little. He's right there against her, close enough that she doesn't need to look.
SaveThen he gets to work. He nuzzles her head, hard, and starts licking her hair as if she were a kitten who needed a bath. She giggles.
She is not short on company. The other pets come and go around her, but he's the one who stays. He spends all his time with her, parked on her chest.
SaveThere's a follow-up from after the birth, with the new parents introducing the baby to all the animals, and everything went well. The baby came home to a house that was already full, and to at least one cat who had been waiting.
