They show up on time, every time. Tiger carries in toys to make his case, and then both dogs climb onto the bed and walk all over her. They're wide awake, and they would like her to be wide awake too.

Six in the morning is when Tiger goes to work.

She sits down to breakfast, and the dogs follow. The two of them stay right behind her and watch every bite.

Then she rolls out a mat to work out, and the dogs move in at once, pushing close for cuddles. Tiger gets hold of her hair. "Tiger, this is my hair," she tells him. "We're not biting."

Next it is her fingers. "This is not cuddles time," she says, though nobody in the room believes it, least of all her. The workout stops so the dogs can have their cuddles after all.

Later she heads out, and coming back home is its own event. "Hi, guys," she says, and the dogs are already there to meet her, tails wagging, as thrilled as if she had been gone for a week.

She walks back in the door, and the welcome starts at once.

They love a car ride too, and wherever she is going, the two of them would like to come along. In the end the couch belongs to them, Leo and Tiger stretched out across it side by side. "I have enough space here," she says, from whatever corner is left.
