Gray cat lies on his back to watch Tom and Jerry

Tom and Jerry is on in the living room, and the most serious viewer is a gray cat lying on his back in a fluffy white bed with his paws in the air. more

The room is ready for the holidays, with a Christmas tree decorated in red ornaments and a striped rug on the floor. He has taken the bed the way a person takes a recliner. His lifted paws look less like rest than suspense, as if he's waiting to see what Tom tries next.

He settles in the way most of us end a long day, on his back with his paws in the air.

The old, familiar sounds of the cartoon fill the room. He keeps his eyes up on the screen and stays put, so still that one viewer swears he never blinks. Others say he looks like a kid on the couch after school, or like their own dad after dinner.

Tom has been chasing Jerry since 1940, and this cat seems to take every chase seriously. Whose side he is on is anyone's guess. Some viewers think he is rooting for Tom. Others are sure he is taking notes and could catch that mouse himself.

Whoever else is in the room does not get so much as a glance. The top comment imagines the owner just came home and found him like this.

Later he is still sunk deep in the white cushion, green eyes turned up toward the screen. He looks settled in for the whole episode.

His green eyes stay turned up toward the screen.

One viewer gives him extra credit for leaving the Christmas tree alone. With a show this good on, the ornaments can wait.
