The carrier door shuts and this tabby stays calm
For days a tabby cat waits in the cold outside a Brooklyn apartment building. Someone used to own her. Now she is on her own. more
Her spot is a patch of sidewalk by the trash bins. She sits there alert, watching the street, and she's far too friendly to be a street cat.
SaveThen the Flatbush Cats crew turns up on her block to release some neighborhood cats from their traps. Flora notices. She wanders over to find out more, the way a neighbor might stop by to ask about a ride.
She's friendly right away and lets everyone pet her. One of the rescuers kneels and holds her chin in his hand. When the carrier comes out, nobody has to coax her. She walks in on her own, the door closes behind her, and she doesn't fuss at all.
SaveWhoever owned her before left her behind. Somehow she still thinks people are good.
The crew takes her back to the rescue, and life indoors suits her fine. She curls up on a bright blanket and sleeps.
SaveNext comes a foster home, where Flora can wait for a family of her own. Her foster parent has a warm lap, and Flora makes good use of it.
The cuddles keep coming, as many as she'll take, and she'll take a lot. A hand on her neck sends her eyes shut and her head tipping back.
SaveHer new family says she is the snuggliest, funniest little cat, one who always wants to be near them. She sleeps curled against them, sunbathes in the window and then tears around after a spring toy. Nobody has to coax her into any of it.
