Great Dane in a chef's hat tours the dinner table
Maddie the Great Dane has her chef's hat on and a plate of wieners and beans within reach. Waiting her turn isn't part of the plan. more
She's introduced as Chef Maddie, and the hat sells it. It's a perfect fall-weather night, and dinner is in the living room. The menu is split along family lines: Mom wants sandwiches and Dad loves wieners and beans. The chef steps up to sample.
The wiener goes first. Maddie takes one, chews it over, and the verdict arrives: pretty good. She goes straight in for another, and Diane tells her to wait, then tells her again, several times in a row. The waiting doesn't last long. That one is good too.
Then she switches seats. Diane notices. Maddie keeps moving, very politely, from one plate to the next, and the meal turns into what Diane calls the tour of the table. Through all of it the hat stays put, which earns her a 'good girl.'
SaveOne more bite, and then the request. 'Sit like the peoples do,' Diane says. 'Come on, you can do it.' Maddie does. She sits up on the couch the way a person would, hat still on, and turns a long, hopeful stare on her mom. Seconds aren't out of the question.
SaveDiane sums it up. Maddie has toured the table with her hat on, and Diane decides, 'I think that's a good thing.' Another 'good girl' follows. Then she cheers, 'Welcome to fall, Florida.' Maddie stays where she's on the couch, hat on, sitting like the peoples do.
