Bedtime for Amelia means bedtime for the dogs
Getting Amelia to sleep takes her mom more than four tries. Amelia has other plans, and so does one of the dogs. more
The first try is a flop. Instead of heading for her crib, Amelia climbs up onto her parents' bed, and her mom takes that as a no.
On the second try Amelia makes it into the crib. Then she climbs right back out. Her mom is stunned and asks when she learned to do that, and Amelia only smiles.
Tries three and four go wrong for a new reason. One of the dogs tries to jump into the crib too. It's too high, so the dog stays down on the floor.
SaveGetting both dogs into the bedroom takes a few more tries, and a lot of 'Come on, buddy.' Then comes the blankie. Amelia picks a tea towel, which isn't her blankie at all, so the real one has to be found. She also tries to talk around her bottle, and her mom points out that it's not words.
In the end Amelia wants her mom to go to sleep too. So her mom settles in with both dogs and tells Amelia they are all going to sleep together, and they all love her. The dogs look perfectly content while Amelia drifts off.
SaveThis is the new normal, her mom says. Amelia used to fall asleep on her own once she was put to bed. Now someone has to lie on the floor with her until she nods off, and she likes a little chat on the way.
