His wife came home to a house full of puppies

Bryce Jurgy needs his wife, Nellie, to come home from work. His excuse is a small one. He left his SD card in her car. more

Nellie has always wanted a dog. At Christmas, guessing at a wrapped gift, she even joked, "Is it a puppy?" They can't have a pet where they live. But the carpet is about to come out for wood floors, so Bryce gets the landlord's OK to fill the house with puppies first.

The puppies show up while Nellie is at work, about 10 minutes away. Bryce steps outside so she won't hear them and calls her. He thinks he left an SD card in her car, he says, and it has a segment he needs for today's vlog. She finds the blue card in the middle console and asks if he can just run out and grab it. No, he says, he's busy getting the tags in.

She agrees to bring it in, though by his account she calls him a lazy butt. The card was no accident. Bryce put it in the car the night before, and the plan to get her home came from her boss.

While he waits, one thing bothers him. The puppies can only stay about 30 minutes, and he can't decide if that's nice of him or rude. They come from Puppies for Rent, a group in Utah that takes in puppies who were given up or left with no home and lets people keep them for a while before deciding to adopt. This bunch includes Bernese mountain dogs, border collies, Boston terrier mixes and Chihuahua mixes.

Nellie walks in still on the phone with her mom, and the puppies run at her. "Mom, I gotta call you back," she says, and hangs up. Moments later she decides. "I'm not going back to work."

She gets down on the floor and the puppies crawl all over her. She checks that Bryce doesn't really need his SD card. He doesn't. "This is the best thing in the whole world," she says.

She picks them up two at a time, a black-and-white one in one arm and a brown one in the other. "Look at your squishy face," she tells one. It feels like her birthday.

Soon the talk turns to keeping one. "They can't leave today without us adopting one," she says. Bryce, for his part, points out that puppies don't stay puppies. This one is going to get bigger.

As for the SD card she rushed home, Bryce admits it holds 32 megabytes and is really old. Then Nellie has to go back to work. "This is the best day of my life," she says, "and I have the best husband in the whole world."
