The French bulldog they call a singing potato
Lola Barksdale, a French bulldog, throws her head in the air and sings as loud as she possibly can. Then she stops, waits and soaks it in. more
Rachel and Matt say their dog has become "a complete songstress." She seems to really enjoy the sound of her own voice. She is, in their words, "kind of like a singing potato," and she throws her full little square body into every song.
SaveShe loves to be the center of attention, and the pause after each song is part of the act. She looks proud of herself, and she has good reason. She got what she wanted, which was for her people to come closer.
Lola has always been super vocal, and everything about her feels like a diva. Rachel calls her very determined, and Matt says she definitely rules their house. She wants to be part of everything. "It feels like we're being judged constantly," one of them says.
SaveThen there are all the other noises, a sneeze on her dad included. She squeaks a lot when she eats. When she's excited, she makes happy little party noises, close to a purr. Rachel sometimes feels that Lola is talking to her in a language of her own.
Each noise seems to go with a feeling, depending on what is going on around her. "She's never silent," her people say, and that holds even when she naps. Listen closely and she's snoring.
SaveAll this singing happens in front of a big view out the window, and more than a few people watching found their eyes drifting to it. As for the neighbors, here's hoping the walls are thick.
To Rachel and Matt, Lola is their kid, "kind of our whole life," and the best thing to wake up to. They have the best time together. Lola, for her part, has plenty to say on the subject.
