A kitten adopts Toast as her mom
Toast and her owner stepped out of the house and found a very small cat. "Toast, this is a baby cat, so be gentle," the owner told her, sure the kitten's mother was close by. more
The kitten had other plans. She walked right into the house with them, went straight to Toast and started following her everywhere, as if she had already decided who her mom was.
Then came breakfast. When Toast's morning food went down, the kitten marched into the bowl, and Toast let her eat it. "Toasty, what do we do?" her owner asked. After that, the two just got along.
Before long Toast was helping her new baby get around. She boosted the kitten onto the furniture and pushed her up the steps, then walked her back down again.
SaveHer owner noticed something stranger, too. The kitten slept tucked between Toast's leg and belly, pawing at her with the motions of a nursing kitten. The vet said this was normal, a kind of stress pregnancy, and Toast seemed to have decided this tiny thing was hers to take care of.
She is protective about it. When the kitten wandered close to the pool, Toast got up, picked her up gently in her mouth and carried her back to where everyone was sitting.
SaveToast was anxious about the kitten and always on alert, and she was calmer with the little cat nearby. Her owner says she has very strong instincts and runs on feelings, almost like a person. So the two of them cuddle, and Toast gets to relax.
