Preschool boys in bow ties nail a chair dance
Four chairs wait on a stage at Artek Child Education Center in California. One by one, four preschool boys walk out to claim them. more
They're dressed like a very small barbershop quartet, in white shirts and black vests, trousers, bow ties, hats and shiny shoes. Each boy slaps his thighs as he arrives, then sits down.
When all four are in place, the routine begins. They slap their thighs to the beat and cross one leg, then the other, and they stay together the whole way. For dancers this young, that alone is a feat.
Then they hop down, step behind their chairs and tap their feet. They come back around and sit with their backs to the audience, then work through a few more tricks.
The finish is the part people talk about. One at a time, the boys jump over their chairs, spin them around and sit backward, chests to the chair backs, facing the crowd. Many viewers admit the jump scared them. The boys clear it without a wobble.
SaveThe audience cheers. The praise afterward splits two ways, to the boys for their timing and to the teachers who built a routine this tricky for kids so small.
