Scotland's 104-year-old yarn bomber
Selkirk, a town in Scotland, has a gang of yarn artists called the Yarnstormers. Grace Brett, 104, is one of them. more
She sits on a sofa in glasses and a pink polka-dot shirt. "I'm one of the younger stormers," she says, a fine claim from a woman thought to be the world's oldest street artist. Being part of the group is "very nice" for her, and she's looking forward to it very much.
SaveYarn bombing means covering things in public places with knitted or crocheted pieces. The Yarnstormers, a group of all ages, have done it to 46 landmarks around the Scottish Borders, and it was Grace who inspired the rest to use their skills on Selkirk. She has made bedspreads, too. "I've done two or three bedspreads," she says.
She is "quite pleased" with what she has made, and still a little shy about praise. "That's very nice of you to take any notice of it, isn't it?"
SaveShe also makes little pots. She made two or three for her brother to keep things in, but they came out a bit small, so he asked if he could have something a bit bigger. At 104, she is still taking orders.
