Stray cat trades a deep hole for a bow tie

The stray cat sits on an empty street in Germany as if he's waiting for someone. When Josie goes after him, he bolts down a narrow hole. more

He's scared of the person trying to reach him, and he stays put. Josie tries a gentle nudge with a stick. Nothing. In the end she grabs him with her jacket and gets him into the back of her car.

No vet is open yet, so she takes him home first. He eats the moment there is food in front of him. When she wipes his cheeks clean, he pushes his head up into her hand, and Josie is done for.

Then an animal rescue group calls. They can take him right away, and she lets him go with a heavy heart. It is a month before the vets allow a visit. He's skin and bones, every rib showing, and still full of energy.

After that she comes every week. He rubs his head through her hair and against her face. When her husband meets him for the first time, the two of them click on the spot.

Two and a half months at the rescue, and then he comes home for good. Josie names him Lucian. On the first night he sleeps on their legs.

His energy grows day by day, and so does his voice. Lucian doesn't like to be apart from either of them. When one of them goes to the bathroom, he sits right outside the door and meows as loud as he can. It's a chirpy, chatty meow, and it carries.
