The German Shepherd who wants dinner at noon
Apollo the German Shepherd wants his dinner. It is the middle of the day. more
He starts loud. He knocks his metal food bowl against the wooden floor, and the clatter leaves no doubt about what he is after.
His human makes a big show of having no idea what this is about. "Can I help you with something? What can I do for you?" Then comes a long run of "what, what, what," as if a dog banging his bowl were a great mystery.
So he changes tactics. He moves over to a cupboard, plants himself near it and gives his best puppy eyes. Those huge ears only help. German Shepherds were bred to herd sheep. This one is herding his human toward the cupboard.
SaveAt last the questions get to the point. "You want some food? Food? You hungry?" There's a catch, though. "It is midday. You just ate, and you're hungry again?" Then, after all that, "Oh my gosh, all right."
Going by the many owners who say their own dog does the exact same thing, Apollo is far from alone. He is just very, very good at it.
