Hope, on three legs, finds a home

The German shepherd was freezing, shaking and breathing hard when a rescue volunteer found her alone in a field in Kansas City during a hard winter. more

Her name is Hope. The volunteer got her into the car and drove straight to the Wayside Waifs animal shelter.

The shelter team soon found something worse. Hope had been shot in the left leg. The bullet missed her vital organs, but it broke her thigh bone, and the leg had to be removed.

For a dog who had known so much fear and pain, Hope bounced back fast. She was up and walking the same day as the surgery. Life on three legs took some getting used to, but the surgery gave her the chance at a full life.
