Tyrann Mathieu takes a dog's seat in a hot car
It's 90 degrees outside when Tyrann Mathieu climbs into a parked car to find out what a dog goes through. more
"Hey, I'm Ty Mathieu with PETA," the NFL player says, smiling, before he gets in. His plan is simple. Sit where a dog would sit while someone runs into a store. "I'm sure it's going to get a whole lot hotter inside of that car."
SaveHe's right. For the first couple of minutes he looks fine. Then the sweat starts, and it does not let up.
"This is ultimately what it feels like to be a dog trapped inside of a car on a hot day," he says, "while their owner is probably in a grocery store." The dog just has to sit there and overheat.
"I seriously couldn't imagine leaving my dog in a car like this," he says. The line people keep quoting comes next. "If you're going to make a dog a part of your family, then make him a part of your family." Don't treat him, he adds, in a way you wouldn't treat someone you loved.
Save"I can't wait to get out of this car," he says. By about eight minutes in, the air inside has hit 120 degrees, and he looks close to passing out. He opens the door and gets out, dripping with sweat.
SaveHe could open that door any time he wanted, and he had no fur coat on. A dog left in that seat gets neither break.
