Coco keeps busy on the black leather couch, pecking at the remote controls. Max sits nearby on a red cushion and watches.

At one point Max sits on a chair with his tongue out and a remote control on the table beside him. He's very curious, and it shows all over his face.

Max pauses on a chair, tongue out, in the middle of all that birdsong.

This was a one-time meeting, and the woman who first shared it was honest about why. It went well that day. But if Max had grabbed Coco for even a split second, it could have ended very badly.

Max is a rescue. He came from worse conditions, and because of how he was treated before, he can never go out into the wild. That is why he wears a diaper, and the chain on him isn't the choking kind.

He has come a long way since then and now enjoys time with people. Max has moved to a new home with a vet technician, and the two of them are best friends.
