Kitten begs a two-day-old baby deer to play

A newborn fawn is resting outside Miro's front door, and the kitten has decided the two of them are going to be friends. Nobody asked the fawn. more

Miro and her owner find him just outside the door. The kitten wants a closer look, and she wants it all to herself. For a while she waits by the gate, head down, before she makes a move.

A tabby cat with white paws rests on a stone surface beside an ornate metal gate, looking down. A headline runs in white letters across the lower third. — Miro waits by the gate before making her move.

Then she goes in. She taps the top of his head with a paw. Nothing happens, so she taps again.

She tries licking him. She puts her nose right up to his ear and sniffs. The fawn lets all of it happen without a twitch, his eyes wide open.

A tabby cat sniffs a young fawn's ear beside green leaves and a light-colored wall. A headline runs in white letters across the lower third. — Miro checks the fawn's ear up close, and he doesn't react.

At one point Miro tries a new idea. She drops down and lies flat on her belly, the same way he is lying, as if the trick is to do what he does. He gives no sign that he noticed.

The fawn isn't being rude. Miro's owner learns later that he's just 48 hours old, too young to walk or to answer a kitten. While his mother is off feeding, his only defense is to lie low and keep still, even with a tabby patting his head. He's doing it perfectly.
